OMG, you guys, Christmas is sooo close! Gingerbread houses! Christmas trees! Stockings! Rudolph! Tacky Christmas movies! Ugly Christmas sweaters! We haven’t lost all control just yet, but let’s just say some of us are one Christmas carol away from becoming elves. Before switching the holiday cheer to full blast, let’s take a look at some actual work that was going on at the Okimo office in November.

Okimo Stories

Not so much into reading? Enjoy emojis? Then you’re going to love this little video where we’ve combined some of our November highlights into a visual summary. Hit play to see exclusive behind-the-scenes material from Christmassy photoshoots, our Christmas party and a video project that took our video team from rainy Finland to sunny Malta!

Wake up and smell the champagne

Office life without office Christmas parties is like Santa Claus without a beard, like a fireplace without a fire or like Home Alone without Macaulay Culkin: just fine, but there’s something missing. Luckily, we had an awesome pre-Christmas party together with the Marketing Clinic Partners gang. This year’s party took us all on a holiday! We travelled in groups, and our destinations varied from the Maldives to Paris, from the Alps to Ibiza and from Bali to the Canary Islands. Here’s the Okimo team dressed up for the occasion.

A GIF that keeps on giving

Our beloved Finland is celebrating 100 years of independence in just a few days. This year, #Suomi100 products have been everywhere. (I mean, why wouldn’t you want Suomi100 ground beef or toilet paper?!) This special anniversary will culminate in the most awaited #Suomi100 event of all, the Independence Day Ball. It’s time to put on your fanciest clothes, eat traditional Finnish delicacies like “klimppisoppa” and watch the endless line of handshakes on TV.

Lessons learned

One special guest in our weekly Okimo Pause meeting in November was Joonas Berghäll, an award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter and documentarian responsible for documentaries such as Miesten Vuoro (Steam of Life) and Äidin Toive (Mother’s Wish). He told us about the process of filmmaking and the differences and similarities between directing the currently very popular documentary-style ad films and actual documentaries. For instance, they both include interviewing the main characters in a very real and direct way, and through the interview process, Joonas has to dig deep into a person’s life story. In ad productions, he just has a lot less time to make that happen. Joonas taught us some valuable lessons about storytelling and person-to-person interactions and he brought tears to our eyes by showing us a clip of one of his films.

Social media update of the month

Probably the biggest news in social media this month was Twitter doubling its character limit for tweets from the legendary 140 characters to 280. Some hate it, some love it, and it remains to be seen how this affects tweeters’ behaviour in the long run. Twitter already reported that in many cases, people have received more engagement and increased their follower counts by being wordier. Read more about the update in our blog post here

Song of the month

It should come as no surprise that our musical pick this month is a Yuletide tune. With this classic, we want to wish all you readers a fantastic holiday season! May your stockings be overflowing, your bellies full after Christmas dinner and your social media feeds bursting with pictures of brightly decorated Christmas trees.
